TWENTY-ONE
“Take Your Mark!”

I conquered yet another feat in life.
It felt great.
And now, I’ve got the next phase to triumph over.

That will require a slight more time.
And luck.
And perseverance.
Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps.
The overwhelming desire to hold on to reality.
Diminishes.
Slowly and unknowingly,
I lose grip on the edge of the abyss.

Somebody save me.

I may not gleam like the rest.
But I am sure there will be a stage where I can shine.
Many times I blame myself.
For the wrong choice made.
For if I had opted the otherwise years back,
Where would I be today?

Instead of wasting time sulking over regrets.
I decided to walk on bravely.
Though weariness is starting to pin me down.
The fog is beginning to descend on the path ahead.
I have to finish.
I want to cross the finishing line.
So what if I came in last?
I may have lost the race.
But I am the victor over of my own weaknesses.
The race is against myself.
It belongs to me.

No regrets this time.

I chose this story,
I will live through it.

C’mon Jasmine, you can do it.

Till then.

TWENTY
Thoughts at Random

= Breakaway =
Everyone needs a breakaway from realism and rationality. Look at things from the different perspective and maybe we can find the strength to conquer our fears. Savour the present moment with a twist of surrealistic experience.

= 16 October =
The special day of the little sister of the trio.

= Childhood Dishes =
I remember vividly the dishes that accompanied me through my early childhood years. The laksa, spring roll, pig organs soup, roasted duck, muah chee etc. There were the tastes that knitted the 3 generations together. It is very much like a sack that secures rice. So what will happen when the sack is torn?

= The Countdown =
3 weeks to his final exams.
1 month to his birthday.
1 month to twinny’s birthday.
1 month to Tommoi’s return.
2 months to Christmas.
2.5 months to year-end.

= Luck =
I need all the luck I can get now.

Till then.

NINETEEN
Crossing the Bridge

A convoluted and opaque tale, bearing total obscurity
Who would have known, the dark secret beneath

I stood at the end of the bridge
Impatiently waiting for her to catch up
Her footsteps slowed
And came to a halt
Drenched in weariness
Her red doll dress soaked

“Hurry up!” I called out

She crumbled to her knees
Looked up at me
Her voice faltered
Breathing words I couldn’t hear
Her face paled
As though she would faint

The sky dimmed
A hint of nightfall

“C’mon! You slowcoach!”

I turned and walked off
Leaving her to fend for herself
She knew the way home
She would be fine

But she never made it

For three long weeks,

I stood at the end of the bridge
Patiently waited for her to appear
For the familiar footsteps
And the red doll dress

Emptiness greeted
Regret settled

Till then.
