THIRTY
Walk Me Home

“Baby would you walk me home
I don't want to go all the way alone
Baby would you walk with me home
Baby would you take my hand
Come with me now to our special land,
Baby would you walk with me home”

- “Walk me home” by Mandy Moore

She loves Saturdays.
The day of the week when she finds solace in and indulges in pampered love.
Once. She once loved Saturdays.

I listened for the familiar footsteps that would follow.
Only silence greeted.
I turned, hoping to see the comforting smile.
To find my hopes dashed by the looming darkness.
It finally dawned on me – I am alone.
I was left to find my way home.
Now, the path seemed long and foreign.
The laughter that could once be heard down the trail, grew distant.
Slowly diminishing into the wind’s embrace.
The road, once shared by two, now holds the monotonous footsteps.
Two has become a taboo.
I cannot tell if it was the rain or the tears that has turned my vision a blur.
At my doorstep, I turned and looked.
I was under the delusion that you would secretly follow me home.
Emptiness looked on.
For I know, it has been my company all night long.
Didn’t they say, “Hopes will bring miracles?”
In my little humble hermit shell, my new home awaits.
I will be stronger. I will try.
Even happiness has gone stale.
Saturdays are no long the same.
They no long matter.

What went wrong?

Till then.
